Konica

Konica was a Japanese manufacturer of film cameras and photographic equipment who later merged with Minolta to became Konica Minolta.

The history of Konica traces back to 1873 when pharmacist Rokusaburo Sugiura began selling photographic materials at his store in Konishiya Rokubē.

After many years producing cameras and products under the name Konishiroku, the company released the Konica I camera in 1948. This foreshadowed the company’s name change to Konica, which took place in 1987.

In 2003 the company merged with Minolta, which closed the photo imaging division in 2006 and refocused on industrial imaging products, such as copiers and laser printers.
